Celebrating 100 years of Hario: Artist’s Edition V60s to be launched at London Coffee Festival
Hario, makers of iconic coffee brewing equipment will be celebrating their 100th anniversary by releasing a collector’s run of V60s featuring artwork by prominent designers and illustrators.
The UK arm of the Japanese company will showcase a handful of the Artist’s edition V60s at London Coffee Festival this week on the Brewed By Hand company stand. After this, the complete set of 10 designs will be available to purchase via Hario or Brewed By Hand in early October.
Hario, founded in Japan in 1921 began producing high-quality glassware before becoming synonymous with coffee after inventing the V60 brewing method in the 1950s. Since then they have become a staple in the specialty coffee industry, spearheading product development in all areas of manual brewing.
The release of the Artists Edition V60 is the first time this classic piece of brewing equipment has ever been used as a canvas for pieces of art. The anniversary project, which has only taken place in the UK, is a collaboration between Hario UK and their exclusive distributer Brewed By Hand. Greg Amann, Head of Commercial at Brewed By Hand lead the project: “We’ve been working with Hario for 10 years and wanted to do something incredible to celebrate their 100th anniversary. Everyone recognises V60s for their distinctive shape but to use them as a canvas for some very talented artists…they just got even more distinguished.”
Three different artists with very different styles were commissioned for the project, two of which also have a background in coffee. Additionally, three roasteries/coffee shops, with distinctive style were also chosen to submit designs. “We’ve represented a range of styles and ideas so there will be something everyone will enjoy among the collection. We’ve also managed to feature a London cityscape – the home of Hario UK’s headquarters.” explains Greg.
The ceramic V60 collection, printed by Heraldic Pottery, specialist ceramic printers based in Stoke-on-Trent, comprises of 10 different designs available in several colours. They have been created in extremely limited numbers as a collectors’ item with more artists and projects planned for the future.
