At Brewed By Hand, we’ve been heavily involved in the coffee competition scene since for well over 8 years. We’re committed to supporting coffee competitions and grassroots events via sponsorship and providing equipment for the entrants.
The draw for us comes not just from witnessing the very cutting edge of coffee, but from helping these competitions run, and assisting those to get to the competitions who otherwise wouldn’t be able to without support.
Just recently we’ve been privileged to witness two new UK coffee champions get crowned. This year it was great to see that the winner of both the UK Barista Championship and the UK Brewers Cup were both women. There tends to be a prevalence of male competitors and therefore male champions – can you believe that the very first female World Barista Champion (Agnieszka Rojewska) was crowned as recently as 2018?

Congratulations to both winners who – we are proud to share – beat off the competition using equipment provided by Brewed By Hand.
We’re committed to supporting coffee competitions and grassroots events via sponsorship and providing equipment for the entrants. These two Championships are no different so, let’s take a look at the equipment of champions, donated by Brewed By Hand:
Loveramics is the official cup of the World Latte Art Championship and The World Barista Championship, and a proud sponsor of UK Barista Championship and UK Brewers Cup. Competitors served their drinks in Egg cups, tumblers and brewers tasting cups allowing judges to have the very best impression of their beverages.
Felicita scales were provided to ensure optimum accuracy and responsiveness, just what you need in a fast-paced, high-pressure situation. Temperature control kettles also gave entrant complete control over their water temperature, flow rate and pouring pattern.
It wouldn’t be a brewing competition without equipment from the legendary Hario! From kettles, stands and servers to (of course) an awful lot of V60s, we made sure baristas had the very best brewing kit available.
This is the only manual grinder that so regularly is used in championship-winning routines. Extreme accuracy and consistency are paired with stunning good looks.

In case you’re unfamiliar with these two UK competitions, here’s a quick run-trough of each:
The Brewers cup is all about manual brewing. Competitors’ recipes, precision and skills are tested as they must prepare three different drinks to a panel of judges. Points from 0-10 are awarded in a number of categories including aroma, aftertastes, acidity, body and balance. Our friends over at Loveramics sponsor the event, providing cups, and our sister company Brewed By Hand provide top-of-the-range equipment to competitors.
The Barista Championship is much more espresso-focused but also covers areas such as work-flow and customer service skills. Each competitor must present an espresso, a milk-based drink, and a signature beverage for the judges. For each round they will be judged on the drinks’ sensory presentation (aroma, visual, taste) as well as the time took to make it, and how much wastage they produce.
